Chris Tancock has recently
received awards for two of his photographs in the 2007 Landscape
Photographer of the Year exhibition in London.
In all, as many as five of
his photographs were selected for the book and the exhibition.
Here
are some images from Chris's portfolio - I often have many other images
in stock.

Chris
says,
"Photographs,
for me, are about
capturing
a moment that speaks
of what
came before and all
that
may come after - so that in a
sense
it becomes a timeless image
rather
than a frozen moment in time.
My photographs
will still depict the
trappings
of a particular decade or
event
but my motivation is to
capture
this timeless quality
of the
moment and
express
a continuum...."

"A
good negative is just the starting point for the eventual image.
I believe
the mood and atmosphere
of a
place reside in the viewer
so it
is my response to these
ingredients
of the moment
that
determines how I work
the
final image. I try to keep my
composition
simple, with strong
subjects
in dramatic lighting and
as little
clutter as possible."
"For
me the finished picture comes
first
and the subject second.
What
I photograph is only a starting point.
I hope
my images have a sense of the
uncanny
or exotic about them.
They
should make magic the
world
we think we know."

"There
are times of day and
places
where man rarely treads
and
to let my camera explore
these
is my present aim.
I find
that visiting the same
locations
over a long period of time,
(anything
from 2 years and onwards)
creates
a relationship that means
my photographs
are more like
portraits
than landscapes."
