In Peter's own words:
"If you could choose
your dream job, what would it be? In August 1999 my job came to a sudden
end, and at the age of 47 my prospects of finding other employment were
not good. I decided to turn what felt like a disaster into something good.
My dream job was to be an artist, and here was my opportunity!
I started in an unusual
way. I collected some flat slates from local beaches, and using acrylic
paints, painted some local scenes. As I live near Fishguard about a mile
from the farm where I was born and raised, I am very aware of the beauty
surrounding me in Pembrokeshire, so I am spoilt for a choice when it comes
to choosing subjects to paint...."
Since those early beginnings,
Peter progressed to using his paints in a more conventional way, increasing
the scale of his paintings from just a few square inches to the more usual
paper sizes. His simple yet detailed style is even more effective on paper,
and his intuitive understanding of the play of light in the reflections
on water give his sea scenes a feeling of serenity and belonging. |
