While Sarah Young's
paintings are very much in the style of the 21st century they also carry
with them the spirit of early North Pembrokeshire days, as she is inspired
by past experiences and tales of old which have been recounted to her by
her family and the people of the locality. At the same time she is not
hidebound by extraneous detail, thereby creating a simple yet stronger
image.
The paintings shown
here are all oil paintings of the North Pembrokeshire landscape; places
such as Abereiddi and Aberfelin - places which to her, hold more meaning
and character than just pretty views.
Sarah, who lives
in Trefin, was born in Pembrokeshire and educated at Croesgoch CP and St
Davids Schools, going on to study Art and Design at Carmarthen College
of Art and Technology and, later, Fine Art at Aberystwyth University.
Her work has been
exhibited mainly in galleries in her native Pembrokeshire, and in August
1996 she won both the main and the under 25s awards at the Fishguard Festival
Art Exhibition. Most recently she exhibited at the Adam Gallery in Penarth
and she also donated a painting to the Pentigili exhibition which raised
money for the 2002 Tyddewi National Eisteddfod, as a result of which she
was featured on the Welsh arts programme Y Sioe Gelf.
